Looking for the best air filter for your Hypermotard 950 to solve your power delivery issues? Stop for a moment and read this.
We know how frustrating it is to drive in traffic or on a tight bend and have to fight with the’dispensing in bursts and the annoying ones empty at low revs (especially between 4,000 and 5,000 rpm).
Most Ducati riders think that the solution is to fit a Racing air filter for Ducati Hypermotard. The truth? Changing just the filter is completely useless if you don't solve the real problem.
The real "plug" on your bike is not the original paper filter, but the airbox cover. The stock air inlet is tiny. Fitting a sports air filter Behind that tiny hole, it's like having the lungs of a marathon runner but trying to run while breathing through a straw.

So, I fitted this filter housing yesterday. It's not exactly cheap for a piece of 3D-printed plastic, but it costs about one-fifth or one-tenth of the price of an exhaust system that doesn't really do much apart from making more noise, because the stock exhaust system is lightweight and very well designed.
My bike is a 2019 Ducati Hypermotard 950 SP with 29,000 km on the clock. It is fitted with an eFlexFuel unit so it can run on ethanol. Everything else is completely stock: the catalytic converter and the exhaust.
I rode 60 km this morning, and here are my conclusions.
With a small amount of throttle when exiting slow corners, the bike feels smoother and more responsive. There is less need to smooth out the throttle response with the clutch in order to ride efficiently and cleanly. The bike isn't more powerful down low — quite the opposite — but the power delivery is smoother and more linear.
Around 3,000 rpm, you start to feel the engine filling out, and around 3,500–4,000 rpm, it really comes alive. The bike catapults forward with noticeably more torque and reaches the redline much more quickly.
I believe the advertised 3 horsepower are definitely there, possibly even a little more. You notice it especially because you reach the rev limiter much faster than before.
The engine feels more free-revving and less inert throughout the entire rev range. The sound also changes slightly at wide-open throttle from the mid-range upwards.
Is it worth it? Absolutely, without a doubt.
In my opinion, without remapping the ECU, the best setup is the Intake Device 2 Engineering combined with the stock catalytic converter and stock exhaust.
Forget the Akrapovičs, Termignonis and other €1,500–€2,000 exhaust systems. This cover and filter will make you very happy for a fraction of the price, while allowing you to ride completely legally.
