It is not approved for road use: use on public roads is not permitted.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Why the stock intake of the R 1300 GS is restricted<\/h2>\n<p>The R 1300 GS boxer breathes through two air filters, one on each side, closed by two plastic covers. The air inlets of the stock covers are small, designed mainly to meet European homologation noise limits: that is where the intake bottleneck is.<\/p>\n<h2>Why changing the air filters alone is not enough<\/h2>\n<p>As a first upgrade, many riders fit <strong>performance air filters for the R 1300 GS<\/strong>. The problem is that the filters still sit behind the same stock air inlets: if the air cannot get into the airbox, a freer-flowing filter makes little difference. The large openings increase the air inlet area towards the filters. The box also includes the pair of Sprint Filter P08 polyester filters (code SM260S): a complete intake system, designed to work with the stock ECU.
